How to get your application documents

Open the job's documents and choose Start my documents. We read what the ad asks you to send and its limits, then ask up to 6 optional questions. Choose how far to tailor, then Write my documents. You get a resume for this ad, and the cover letter, statement or criteria it asks for.

Start

  1. On the job's page, choose Open my application documents.
  2. Choose Start my documents. We read what the ad asks you to send, and its word and page limits.
  3. Check What the ad asks for and What the ad requires. We mark each must-have your resume doesn't show yet.
  4. Under How far to tailor, choose As written, Tailored (recommended) or Confident.
  5. Answer what you can under Make it stronger. Every question is optional.
  6. Choose Write my documents.

At every level, the AI is told never to invent an employer, title, date, degree, certificate, clearance or number. Any claim we can't back is taken out. You can also add a cover letter the ad didn't ask for.

Check each line

  • Lines that go beyond your resume's own words are marked. Choose Keep it or Take it out for each one.
  • Each line you keep gets a card in your kit: what they'll ask about it, and how to answer.
  • Gaps in [brackets] are details only you know. Fill them in, then choose Add these to my document. Gaps print just as they are.

Edit and download

  • Edit this document lets you change any part. A counter shows the words or pages against the ad's limit. Then choose Save my changes.
  • Select some words, then choose Shorter, Clearer or More formal. Then choose Use it or Keep mine.
  • Write it again, with a note rewrites a whole document, up to 5 times per job. Undo my last change brings back the version before.
  • Choose Download PDF, Download Word, or Copy the text for online forms. Download all (PDF) gets every document at once.

US federal jobs

The US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) sets hiring rules for US federal jobs. It asks you to certify that essay answers are your own words, written without AI or a consultant. So on a US federal job, we don't write, rewrite or proofread them. Under Essay questions: your own words only, you'll find each question, what it looks for, and notes from your resume.
